Introduction to the Learning Support Space
Introduction to the Learning Support Space (LSS)
The material here has been designed to support you in this Course. It is based on GUIDE's (Glasgow University Initiative in Distance Education) experience of typical questions and issues that arise both at the start of and during e-learning courses. The LSS thus provides general advice for online learners and specific advice on use of the software, called Moodle, used to deliver and to support your e-learning. I understand that many, possibly all, of you will have already used a VLE (Virtual Learning Environment). If so, your experience will be extremely useful although we advise you to spend some time in this space as features you are used to may be rather different in Moodle.
Any online course you undertake provides an opportunity to build a collaborative learning community that includes your course Tutor and your fellow students. I hope, from the start of this course, that you will share reactions, questions and concerns with each other and with me. Some of you will be entirely confident about working online and studying at this level. Others will be more anxious. Please use this space and use each other and do not think your question is silly or that you are the only one asking such things - both are most unlikely.
Throughout your course you will have access to this space and, although you will probably use it most intensively during the initial stages of your e-learning, you should refer to it whenever you have a question or doubt as your course progresses.
If you have any questions at any time, please do not hesitate to post a note in the Help Forum, located off the Home Page. You may expect a response within 48 hours. Alternatively, you may email moodlehelp@guide.gla.ac.uk any time for technical assistance.
