Perceptions

This is the second half of an icebreaker exercise that was presented to students in this course. The goal of the forum was twofold: first, to ask students to explain their choices and begin discussions; second, to engage students with the material and with each another. This forum was created so that students could only begin one discussion each, but could reply to as many posts as they wish. Thus, the forum had a limited number of threads, but still encouraged discussion. You will notice that some of the discussions stray from the original focus of the thread and there is no attempt from the tutor to dissuade this. In a forum of this nature (i.e. their icebreaker and their first forum) the intention was to encourage discussion - whether or not that strayed off-topic.

Perceptions

Now that you have chosen your character, take some time to explain if your character:

• is good or bad?
• a man or a woman?
• from a popular film, text, story or a general character?

Why did you choose this character? Does the character you chose have particular cultural perceptions associated with it?

Please begin your posting by clicking on the 'add a new discussion topic' link below and start off by saying which department or discipline you study (English Literature, Philosophy, Media Studies, etc.) and why you have chosen to take this Course. Then use the guiding questions above to share your perceptions of the character you have chosen. Remember this is a fun exercise! There are no correct answers.
